Are there any prohibitions inside the archaeological park?

There are numerous private car parks near the entrance to Piazza Esedra and Porta Marina Superiore. While near the entrance to Piazza Anfiteatro it is possible to park either on the special blue lines managed by the municipality with an hourly rate, or in the various private car parks. Archaeological Excavations of Pompeii last?

Given the enormous size of the archaeological park, it takes at least 2 or 3 hours to visit only a small part of the excavations. On the other hand, if you want to dedicate more time to the visit, you can take either 5 or 7 hours. What days are the Pompeii Excavations closed?

The Pompeii excavations are closed on 25 December, 1 January and 1 May unless otherwise decided by the Archaeological Park. Can the ticket be purchased online?

Yes, the ticket can be purchased online from the site of the authorised ticketone retailer, with the addition of a fee of €1.50 where applicable

Who does not pay the entrance fee?

Admission is free for minors, disabled persons, Italian teachers and other categories. In addition, entrance to the excavations of Pompeii is free for everyone on the first Sunday of every month.

Is it possible to enter the excavations with pets?

Yes, you can enter the excavations of Pompeii only with small animals on a leash. The only exception concerns large guide dogs used to assist the disabled.

Can you take luggage inside the Archaeological Park? Of what size?

Yes, you can take luggage inside the Pompeii excavations as long as it does not exceed the dimensions of 35x30x15 cm.

Where can I leave my luggage?

Large luggage and pushchairs can be left free of charge at the entrance to the site at the luggage room. There is an automated baggage deposit at the entrance to Porta Marina Superiore which issues a receipt with a collection code.

Is it allowed to take photographs or videos in the Pompeii excavations?

It is permitted to take photographs or videos for private use only, without flash and without a tripod. For professional videos and photographs, special authorisation must be obtained.

Can the drone be used inside the Archaeological Park?

The drone may only be used with appropriate authorisation. For authorisations, please refer to the section of the site: APPLICATION FORMS FOR USE OF IMAGES

Can I enter the Archaeological Park with a pram?

Yes, it is possible to enter the excavations of Pompeii with a pram, but in many places it is difficult to use it due to the presence of paving stones and unevenness, so it is advisable to bring a baby carrier.

The pram can be left free of charge at the baggage lockers at all park entrances.

Or you can take the approximately 3.5 km route reserved for the disabled, blind and buggies with entrance from Piazza Anfiteatro.

Are there nappy-changing facilities inside the excavations?

Yes, inside the excavations there are 3 Baby points that can be used by mothers for nappy changing and breastfeeding in total privacy.

The Baby Points are located in Via dell’Abbondanza and Via di Nola near the Central Baths and the House of Obellio Firmo.

To use the Baby Points it is necessary to collect the keys at the various entrances to the site and return them after leaving.

Are there public toilets inside the excavations?

Yes, inside the Pompeii Ruins there are several public baths located at various points of the site: at the entrances to Piazza Esedra, Piazza Anfiteatro and Porta Marina Superiore, in Via Stabiana near the Quadriportico, next to the Casina dell’Aquila, at Porta di Nola, near the forum baths and near the Antiquarium.

Are there fountains inside the Pompeii excavations?

Yes, there are numerous fountains with drinking water in the Pompeii excavations. But you can buy food and drinks at the bar or restaurant inside the site and located near the Forum Baths, or at the bars outside the respective entrances to the Archaeological Park.

Is there a doctor inside the Pompeii Excavations?

Yes, there is a medical centre at the archaeological site, located near the Autogrill, on the Vicolo degli Augustali.

Is it possible to eat inside the site of Pompeii?

Yes, there are picnic areas inside the excavations. One near the Casina dell’Aquila, another near Porta di Nola. While it is strictly forbidden to eat outside these areas.

Is it allowed to smoke inside the excavations?

Smoking is only permitted in the smoking areas near the toilets and the casina dell’Aquila. While it is strictly forbidden outside these areas.

Is it permitted to enter the excavations of Pompeii by bicycle, scooter or other means?

No, it is strictly forbidden. How should one dress to visit the Pompeii excavations? When visiting the excavations of Pompeii, it is advisable to wear comfortable, non-slip shoes, a hat, especially in the summer months, and comfortable clothes.
