The “Greater Pompeii” is born, one large archaeological site

News

The new project the “Greater Pompeii” is born, creating one large archaeological site that includes the parks of Pompeii, Oplontis, Boscoreale and Stabia.

One big park, with a single entrance fee, with totally free shuttles that will connect the various archaeological sites every day.

With the great Pompeii, the possibility is offered to all visitors to also be able to admire the beauty present outside the Pompeii area. Bringing them to discover the different archaeological sites found during excavations in the countries surrounding Pompeii.

Thus, with this important new project they will be able to admire:

  • The magnificent Villa Poppea of Oplontis
  • Villas San Marco and Villa Arianna in Stabia, with the Libero d’orsi museum in the Reggia di Quisisana in Castellammare di Stabia
  • Villa Regina in Boscoreale where an Antiquarium has been set up for the occasion, housing all the artifacts found during excavations in the villa of Civita Giuliana. Among them is the famous ceremonial chariot , until now on display in the Naples Museum.

Visiting routes to choose from

The project includes 3 different visit itineraries depending on the time you have available:

  • First itinerary, the shortest of them all, is Pompeii Express, which at a cost of €18, allows you to visit the archaeological site of Pompeii, excluding the Suburban Villas of Villa dei Misteri and Villa Diomede located outside the walls of Pompeii. As well as allows a visit to the Antiquarium, Pompeii’s internal museum where the various artifacts found during the archaeological excavations are displayed. At the Palestra Grande, which is also being enriched by the presence of various exhibitions. Among which in December it will host the exhibition dedicated to the humblest classes called “The Other Pompeii.”

  • Second Itinerary is called Pompeii Plus, which at a cost of €22 will allow visits throughout the entire archaeological site of Pompeii, including the Antiquarium, Palestra grande and the suburban Villas of Villa dei Misteri and Villa Diomede. Which will become easily accessible thanks to the free Pompeii Artebus shuttle, which will allow visitors to reach the two villas located outside the walls of Pompeii. But not only will it also connect the Pompeii site with the archaeological park of Boscoreale with visits to Villa Regina and the Antiquarium. Which houses all the artifacts found during excavations in the Villa of Civita Giuliana. This includes the famous ceremonial chariot that has been totally reconstructed. The Pompeii Plus package then includes the cost of the entrance ticket for the Pompeii and Boscoreale sites and the shuttle service that will connect the Villa of Mysteries, with Villa Regina and Antiquarium, with return to Piazza Esedra in Pompeii.

  • The third itinerary the most complete of all includes a visit for the entire archaeological site of Pompeii, for Villa Regina in Boscoreale and the antiquarium, Villa San Marco and Villa Arianna in Stabia, the Libero d’Orsi Museum in Castellammare and Villa Poppea in Oplonti. A single route with a ticket valid for 3 days at a cost of €26. With free shuttle bus that will connect the different archaeological sites every day thanks to the Pompeii Artebus service from Piazza Esedra in Pompeii.

Until Dec. 15, 2023, €1 must be added to the cost of the ticket for the different tour routes to support the Emilia Romagna region damaged following the recent flooding events.

The benefits of the project the “Greater Pompeii”

With Greater Pompeii, therefore, the routes to visit Pompeii, the cost of the ticket, and the methods of access will change.

For example, now only with the Pompeii Plus ticket will it be possible to visit the suburban Villas of Villa dei Misteri and Villa Diomede. Previously visitable through the Pompeii Excavations entrance ticket alone. But at the same it will facilitate the connection and the possibility of being able to visit the other sites buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD as well.

With this project, visitors will have the advantage of using the shuttle service that will connect the different sites completely free of charge. Avoiding the need to use cabs or rental cars, to move from one place to another. And by using a single entrance ticket valid for all sites .
