Where to Park in Pompeii Saving Money

Curiosities

Have you decided to visit Pompeii and don’t know where to park without having to pay an arm and a leg? No problem!!! In our guide you will find the right solution for you.

Parking lots in Pompeii are numerous, but many are also very expensive!

There are both numerous private parking lots, which on average charge 10 euros per car for full-day parking or an hourly rate. Both municipal parking lots demarcated by the typical blue stripes, whose hourly cost depends on the area where you park. In central areas, for example, you can charge as much as 2€ per hour. While in others you can save a little by paying 1€ per hour. So watch out for the signs!

However, if you are not willing to spend that much on parking, then follow my instructions carefully, I will point you to two very cheap parking lots you can find in Pompeii!

Pompeii’s cheapest parking lots

Sanctuary Parking

Pompeii sanctuary parking lot

One of them is located behind the Shrine of Pompeii. And it is the parking lot that belongs to the latter, here you will pay only 2€ for parking for the whole day. You got that right 2€!!! Incredible right? Just think that you will be able to quietly visit the Pompeii ruins, the Sanctuary, the rest of the city and have a leisurely lunch without thinking about parking.

In fact, everyone can park here, both those who decide to visit the Sanctuary. Both those who intend to take a simple walk in Pompeii or those who want to visit the Excavations.

The parking lot is located on Via Roma, No. 2 next to Piazza Bartolo Longo and 400 meters from the entrance to Piazza Anfiteatro of the Pompeii Ruins. A strategic point that allows you to visit not only the square and the sanctuary, but also the Excavations!

Along the way you will be able to find numerous stores, bars, restaurants, and even a very well-equipped amusement park if you are in the company of small children and want to entertain them as well. In short, you will be right in the center of Pompeii. The only downside? It fills up easily, especially on Sunday. So don’t leave late!!!

Falcone and Borsellino Square municipal parking lot

Falcone and Borsellino Square Parking Pompeii

The second parking lot, unfortunately, is a bit further away. But if you are young and fit you will have no problem!

Parking here costs €0.50 per hour. So if you should find the Sanctuary parking lot busy you may decide to move to this convenient parking lot.

It is located in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino. 500 meters from Piazza Bartolo Longo, the main square of Pompeii and 1 km from the Amphitheater of the excavations.

On the way you can stroll through the pedestrian zone opened only a few years ago in which there are bars, restaurants, ice cream parlors and stores. An undemanding but on the contrary relaxing walk.

The parking lot is equipped with a system that does not issue tickets, but automatically reads the vehicle’s license plate the moment you pull up to the barrier. Payment can then be made at the automatic cash machine by simply typing in your car’s license plate.

What to visit

These two parking lots I have indicated are convenient if you want to visit the Eastern part of the ancient city of Pompeii, so the amphitheater and other places in its vicinity. Whereas if you are intent on visiting the Western part, so the forum, the Great Little Theater, the House of the Faun, the basilica, etc., they are slightly distant.

You will equally be able to visit them even if you park here, but you will have to go a long way to reach them, not forgetting that you will then have to go back.

So if you are not in the company of small children, the elderly or people with difficulties in making such long routes. And you also want to visit places further away from the Amphitheater then park quietly where I have indicated.

Or you can use the convenient Lillipuntian train. That connects the central part of Pompeii with the excavations , but it costs €8.00 round trip per person. So if you are not intent on admiring the city from a little train, I recommend parking at one of the parking lots near Piazza Esedra in Pompeii, which charge about €10 per car.

Here you will be able to visit the large and small theater, the forum, the forum baths, the Basilica of Pompeii, the sanctuary of Apollo, in short, the best-known places in Pompeii.
