The house of Neptune and Amphitrite <\/strong>was hit along with the rest of the ancient city of Herculaneum by the tremendous eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Herculaneum unlike Pompeii, was not hit by the rain of ash and lapilli. But only by a very powerful pyroclastic flow and mudslide that completely covered Herculaneum with more than 20 meters of volcanic material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only in 1738, during the excavation of a well by a farmer, was the first remains of the ancient city accidentally found.<\/p>\n\n\n
