Tour of Pompeii and Vesuvius from Naples

Vesuvio

The history of Pompeii and Vesuvius is closely linked. Pompeii was destroyed and buried by Vesuvius on 24 October 79 A.D., but despite the terrible fate Vesuvius reserved for it, it is impossible to talk about Pompeii without mentioning the volcano.

This is why for many visitors Vesuvius becomes an essential stop to see, in addition to the excavations of Pompeii, for their holidays in Campania.

However, leaving from Naples to visit both sites on the same day could prove to be really tiring, first of all because the public transport you will have to take will be different and it could happen that the timetables do not coincide.

So if you don’t want the hassle of running between timetables, public transport and tickets to make your visit nerve-racking and stressful, book this convenient Pompeii and Vesuvius tour departing from Naples.

With the Pompeii and Vesuvius tour you will be picked up from Piazza Garibaldi in Naples and comfortably transported to Pompeii by coach. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Pompeii, barring unforeseen traffic jams.

Here, in almost two hours, you will be able to visit the excavations either on a private tour or a group tour, depending on your preference when booking; the main attractions of Pompeii that you will have the opportunity to see are (I list just a few):

  • The basilica of Pompeii, is one of the most sumptuous buildings in Pompeii
  • The forum, the main square of ancient Pompeii
  • The temple of Jupiter, dedicated to the Capitoline triad, Jupiter, Juno and Mars. Via dell’abbondanza, Pompeii’s most famous streetThe House of Menander
  • The lupanare, i.e. the place of sexual pleasure, the so-called brothels, decorated with marvellous frescoes depicting erotic scenes
  • The Stabian Baths, the place where the ancient inhabitants of Pompeii took hot and cold baths.
  • The Great Theatre

Once the tour of Pompeii is over, the coach will take you directly to the slopes of Vesuvius, exactly 1000 metres above sea level. Here you can decide to stop for a short lunch break before starting the ascent to the volcano.

The Pompeii and Vesuvius tour does not include a tour guide for the ascent to the summit, but you may decide to request one directly on site from one of the guides on Vesuvius.

At the end of the visit to the volcano, the coach will take you back to Naples exactly from the starting point.
