How to get around Pompeii by transportation

In recent years, tourists have been offered a new service to move from the center of Pompeii to the entrance of Piazza Esedra to reach the excavations.

The distinctive and striking Lilliputian train, a fun way especially for children to reach their destination without getting tired, having fun and being informed.

In fact, the little train not only performs a simple transportation service. But also offers tourists the opportunity to briefly learn about the history of Pompeii in a tour available in 7 different languages.

Thanks to the specially made digital application, it allows tourists to enjoy cultural content in augmented reality. The app’s contents are available for free and accessible thanks to free wi-fi, only to tourists present in the Pompeii area.

Walking along the city streets, passengers will be able to admire the routes of the archaeological site and discover both the features of the new and ancient city.

The toy train is available year-round, even in winter, where it is enclosed with plastic sheeting if necessary to protect tourists from rain and cold.

It offers daily service with departures every 30 minutes.

And the cost of the service is:

  • 8€ for everyone
  • 5€ for children 5-10 years old and those over 75 years old
  • Free for children under 4 and people with disabilities

There is also the possibility of a day ticket at a cost of €9, with which the little train can be used several times during the day.

Getting around Pompeii by bus

To get around Pompeii from your lodging or the State Railroad station, you can use the convenient Eredi D’Apice urban service.

It is available daily, so Monday through Sunday, with departures every 30 minutes.

It provides several stops present in different corners of the city. Including one in Bartolo Longo Square, another near the State Railway station, in Amphitheater Square. In short, a practical and fast service for those who do not want to move on foot and want to reach the archaeological excavations without stress from the city center.
