Evening opening Pompeii ruins: dates and times

News

September opens under the banner of evening visits to the excavations of Pompeii.

Every Saturday starting September 7, 2024, continuing on September 14 and finally on the 21st, it will be possible to visit Pompeii by night. A walk that begins at nightfall until 11:30 pm.

An unmissable opportunity for all lovers of Pompeii, who will be able to admire it in a completely different guise, less chaotic and crowded than in the morning and dressed in lights and colors.

The evening walks in the excavations of Pompeii this year include a double itinerary, which will allow access, on the one hand, to some houses near the amphitheater and the Palestra grande, and on the other hand to the Villa of the Mysteries.

Admission is allowed from 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., with last admission at 9:45 p.m.

The cost of the ticket is €7. Tickets can be purchased either on the official ticketone.it website or at the respective ticket offices.

First itinerary for evening visits to the excavations of Pompeii

The first itinerary includes the entrance from Piazza Anfiteatro, and it will be possible to visit some of Pompeii’s most elegant domus in a completely new guise, dressed in lights and colors.

Such as the large and spectacular urban villa of Praedia Giulia Felice, famous for its large garden and scenic portico with fluted marble columns.

House of Venus in a Shell, renowned for its large fresco placed on a garden wall, from which it takes its name.

House of Loreio Tiburtino, featuring a large canal in imitation of a Nilotic landscape and mythological paintings from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

The itinerary includes access to the exhibition “The Other Pompeii, Common Lives in the Shadow of Vesuvius” set up at the excavations’ Palestra Grande.

This year Pompeii’s excavations at night will be enriched with activities dedicated to children and families, organized by the Pompeii Children’s Museum.

That will include a special educational visit to the domus along the route, preceded by an acting performance at Casa Rosellino, curated by Fabio Cocifoglia, under Mimmo Paladino’s large Red Horse.

The cost for that activity is €5 per participant (in addition to the site entrance fee) and the duration of the visit + performance is about 1 hour and 40 minutes, starting at 8 pm.

Reservations and ticket purchase can be made online by writing to info@pompeiichildrensmuseum.it
